ABOUT THE SCHOOL

Kampala School for Physically Handicapped a project of Uganda Spastics Society (an indigenous none profit making organization) was started in 1969. The founder members of the Society had children with Cerebral Palsy, and thus aimed at improving the quality of life and rehabilitation of the cerebral palsy children in Uganda.

It’s a boarding government aids school situated at Mengo, Balintuma Road about 4 kilometers from Kampala City.

BOARDING SECTION
While Boarding / welfare takes care of the children’s upkeep while at School, Formal education involves classroom academic work, Activities of Daily Living (ADL), and Extra-curricular activities. Rehabilitation includes Occupational therapy and Physiotherapy, plus training in self help skills, it also takes care of their medical and treatment needs at School.
ACADEMIC CURRICULUM
The School uses the ordinary national curriculum, addressing different pupils learning needs. We have also developed another curriculum, specially designed to address learning needs of the small percentage children with mental challenge that we have. In a nut shell, the School prepares the children to lead a life as normal as possible.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING

Vocational training, on the other hand equips students with trade skills, preparing them for future self reliance.

Extra-curricular activities

Extra-curricular activities includes Music, Dance, and Drama, Computer training, Fine Art Club, sports (including a lot of adapted sports e.g. wheelchair racing, wheelchair basketball, boccia, etc). The School has participated in sports competitions like Kids Special Olympics League, International Chess Championship for people with disabilities, etc. Also in inclusive dance festivals like UNSEEN DREAMS, etc.
